Are you typing the ^ character followed by the B character, or are you hitting control and B simultaneously? The first doesn't work. The second probably won't work, unless you do something like: control+v, control+b. The control+v escapes the next character. It also works in vi. -- Too bad life doesn't have a :q! command.
