Where can I find documents or a lecture about linking and file format

Hi all,

I'm studying about the linker script of the linux kernel and kernel loader.
I don't know much about  the concept of file formats(ELF,COFF..).
I'm finding the example or a document describing  the detail about when some C files compiled into object filesked into an executable.
(how .text section and .data section combined, what is the relocation table..and etc)
Any information is more than welcomed..
