Christine, sadly, that won't help the original poster -- he is working on a userspace program, and posting questions to a kernel mailing list. Original Poster: Check redhat's website for updates. RedHat 6.1 is _OLD_ and problems are likely to have been found since its release. Consider posting your questions to redhat mail lists, as their glibc is probably different from FSF glibc.
