Tracking the block numbers of a specific file

hi everyone,

I am a newbie who just started to learn the Linux
kernel. I would like to figure out all the attributes
of a given specific file.

For example: given /etc/hosts

I would like to find out the inode number, the block
number where it resides , the device number where the
file is present , etc.,

some of these things can be found using the ls command
and it's flags but i could'nt figure out some like the
block numbers !!

is there a data structure inside the kernel where all
these details about the files are stored ?? if so
which data strcture and where can i find that ??

I am using an ext2 fs .. are there any ext2 file
system utilities that can figure out all these details
??

Thanx for u'r time

Karthik
