interesting... but the point remains.. we need some
non-valitile storage.. and if it exsists on the
device... make use of it.. NVRAM is expensive.. and
the new devices come with some some portion of flash
ram (where the BIOS is atored) and the rest is the
normal volatile RAM..

that again doesn't help us much......
