This is patently false. The RedHat released kernels undergo significant
stress testing before making their way to the public. The origination of
the "odd numbers are unstable" applies only to the second digit in the
kernel version: e.g., 2.3.56 and 2.5.4-pre4 are both unstable kernels,
while 2.2.19 and 2.4.54 are both stable kernels.

They should match your installed kernel version, so that you know what
you are booting when presented with the lilo menu.
