Module build results in unresolved symbols

I have applied patches to a module in the kernel tree and when I 'make config
| make dep | make | make modules' all goes well. The problem comes when I
attempt to load the module. A number of symbols are unresolved.

Looking at the symbols at /proc/ksym I see see the symbols but they appear to
be mangled. Other drivers that were built and earlier also have these symbols
mangled in the same way. They install fine.

An example:
Current symbol table shows blk_cleanup_queueR8ef4a4b5. My make produces the
module with the symbol blk_cleanup_queue.

What am I missing?

TIA,
Ted
