Perhaps this reduces the on-disk image, but there are better ways of
doing it appearing also in that thread, and apparently the fact this
doesn't appear in-core makes it of questionable value.

It's something I'll remember when trying to squeeze things onto
floppies, but otherwise, chuck it.
