when signals are handled

Hello,

I have written a test program which creates 2 processes, both of them do
heavy computation and they periodically interrupt each other by signals.

Why it takes on average 0.3s on kernel 2.2.14 and 0.1s on kernel 2.4.9 to
invoke a signal handler? The reaction time is strangely long. There are no
other processes running, each of the two mentioned above gets ~49% CPU.

Is the answer same for 2.3 and 2.4?
