generating patches from bzipped source

Hello list!

I've been trying to figure out a good way to generate a kernel patch
against a stock kernel from the bzipped source.

e.g.

stock kernel source in:
~/Documents/downloads/sys/linux-2.4.9.bz2

untarred, modified kernel source in:
~/Documents/src/kernel/linux-2.4.9-ae01

...howto generate a patch without untarring the stock kernel?

Suggestions very much appreciated. Also, generating a patch from two
bzipped sources would be cool!

I will post the best solution on my website and in the forthcoming
kernelhacking-HOWTO (with credits of course; your chance for some
fame!).

best regards,

Andy
