Filtering is never a fire wall.

says who?

when my gateway drops all incoming packets which are not related to outgoing requests it's per definition a firewall between the internet and my personal computer

On the network side it is different than software.

says who?

it's *all* software, no matter where it's running

We need to further distinctive as all the terms are wrong in the last two decades.

so what

It is technically a filter frame.

and?

I can assist in naming convention, but I would like to see the reference to fire wall removed

good luck with that

hopefully people have better things to do like optimize (relevant) documentation, fixing bugs, optimize performance or just go out and drink a beer
