A bit offtopic question

Howdy people,

I've asked something on the linux-ppp mailing list but it seems to be king
of dead.
I need you guys help, the story is:
I had a crash with ppp_async when using the PPTPD VPN with PPPD, and it
crashed the whole kernel, this followed me to two question on the
linux-ppp mailing list:

1-when the kernel crashes, it doesn't write the crash information to any
of the log files, syslog/messages/etc, where can i get that info or where
can that be defined?

2-A friend told me that with the 2.6x kernels a new option was introduced,
when a particular modules crashes, it's possible to configure the kernel
to not make crash everything and just that module, well I've searched and
didn't found nothing, also don't know for which name to search to, my
question:
Is this really true, if so where to configure it?

Thanks in advanced for this bit of offtopic!

Jorge,
