Students from Arizona will have an opportunity this week to talk with a NASA astronaut on the International Space Station. The Earth-to-space call will air on NASA Television and the agency’s website.

Anne McClain will answer questions from Flagstaff Unified School District students at 1:25 p.m. EST Wednesday, March 6. The event will be held at Coconino High School, 2801 N Izabel St., Flagstaff. Media interested in covering should contact Zach Fountain at zfountain@xxxxxxxxx or 801-698-8756. Lowell Observatory and Flagstaff Unified School District are coordinating the event as part of Flagstaff Lunar Legacy, a celebration of Flagstaff’s scientific role in NASA’s Apollo Moon missions, which included astronaut training, instrument testing, mission simulations and Moon mapping.

Linking students directly to astronauts aboard the space station provides unique, authentic experiences designed to enhance student learning, performance and interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Astronauts living in space on the orbiting laboratory communicate with NASA’s Mission Control Center in Houston 24 hours a day through the Space Network’s Tracking and Data Relay Satellites.
