Renee Wynn took the helm Monday in leading the agency's information technology efforts and capabilities as NASA’s new chief information officer (CIO).

As NASA's top IT official, Wynn is responsible for ensuring NASA’s information assets are in line with federal policies, procedures and legislation. She will be focused on increasing collaboration among the centers and with the other Executive Branch agencies, strengthening NASA’s IT Security posture, optimizing costs of current programs, maximizing the use of Enterprise and shared services and providing innovation through data analytics and visualization.

Prior to joining NASA in July as the deputy CIO, Wynn served 25 years with the Environmental Protection Agency, her final position being acting assistant administrator for the Office of Environmental Information. Wynn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.

Wynn replaces Larry Sweet, who joined NASA in 1987. Sweet is stepping down from the CIO position ahead of his November retirement to allow time for a smooth and successful transition of leadership in the CIO’s office. During his tenure as CIO, Sweet focused on increasing collaboration among the agency’s geographically-dispersed centers and with the other federal agencies, strengthened the security of NASA’s IT infrastructure, identified and addressed inefficiencies, reduced costs in current programs, and maximized the use of enterprise and shared services.
