NASA TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL GIRLS IN MATH AND SCIENCE SUMMIT

NASA Deputy Administrator Shana Dale will participate in the first 
National Summit on the Advancement of Girls in Math and Science. The 
summit is in Washington on Monday, May 15. It is sponsored by the 
Department of Education and the National Science Foundation. 

Summit participants want to develop a national strategy that will 
encourage and engage more girls to participate in math and science 
fields.

There will be a media availability at approximately 1:00 p.m. EDT May 
15, at the Library of Congress, James Madison Memorial Building, 
Montpelier Room, 101 Independence Ave, S.E., Washington. Participants 
include:

- Shana Dale, NASA Deputy Administrator
- Margaret Spellings, U.S. Secretary of Education
- Sally Ride, Ph.D, President and CEO, Sally Ride Science
- Kathie Olsen, Ph.D, Deputy Director, National Science Foundation
- Patricia Diaz-Dennis, Chair, National Board of Directors, Girl 
Scouts of the United States of America
- Dorothy Metcalf-Lindenburger, NASA educator astronaut

NASA education efforts contribute to the development of the nation's 
science, technology, engineering and mathematics workforce by 
offering a diverse portfolio of initiatives. Programs target students 
at all levels, particularly those typically underserved and residing 
in underrepresented communities.
