NEXT SHUTTLE COMMANDER TO GIVE INTERVIEWS ON NASA ANNIVERSARY

NASA astronaut Steve Lindsey, commander of the next space shuttle
mission, is available for satellite interviews from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
EDT April 12, the 25th anniversary of the first shuttle flight.

To interview Lindsey, media should contact NASA's Johnson Space
Center's newsroom, (281) 483-5111, by 4 p.m. EDT April 11. Lindsey's
interviews and b-roll of his training will be broadcast live on the
NASA TV analog satellite AMC-6, at 72 degrees west longitude,
transponder 5C, 3800 MHz, vertical polarization, with audio at 6.8
MHz. The b-roll will air from 6:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. EDT.

Lindsey, a native of Temple City, Calif., is a veteran of three
shuttle missions: STS-87, the fourth U.S. Microgravity Payload
mission; STS-95, a research mission that included Mercury astronaut
John Glenn; and STS-104, an assembly flight that delivered the Quest
Airlock to the International Space Station.

Shuttle Discovery's mission, designated STS-121, is targeted for
launch no earlier than July 1. The flight will continue the
evaluation of flight safety procedures, including shuttle inspection
and repair techniques. Lindsey will fly with pilot Mark Kelly,
spacewalkers Mike Fossum and Piers Sellers and mission specialists
Stephanie Wilson and Lisa Nowak. European Space Agency astronaut
Thomas Reiter is also part of the crew and will remain on the station
for several months. For more information about the STS-121 mission
