Release and Retract Test Marks Artemis I Mission Milestone

Engineers with Exploration Ground Systems and contractor Jacobs successfully completed the Umbilical Release and Retract Test on Sept. 19 inside the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Florida in preparation for the Artemis I mission. The umbilicals will provide power, communications, coolant, and fuel to the rocket and the Orion spacecraft while at the launch pad until they disconnect and retract at ignition and liftoff.


 

Investigating Asteroids with Lucy's Scientific Instruments

A new video highlights the suite of instruments aboard the Lucy spacecraft that will be used to collect data on the Trojan asteroids. Since Lucy will be the first space mission to explore the Trojans, the information gathered will provide extraordinary insight into the history of the solar system.  


 

Inside the Brains of NASA’s Moon Rocket

When NASA’s mighty Space Launch System rocket launches to the Moon from the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, its four RS-25 engines and two solid rocket boosters will produce more than 8.8 million pounds of thrust. In this video, learn about the rocket’s flight software and avionics systems, which act as the brains behind that muscle to guide and steer the rocket beyond Earth’s orbit.


 

NASA’s InSight Finds 3 Big Marsquakes, Thanks to Solar-Panel Dusting

On Sept. 18, NASA’s InSight lander celebrated its 1,000th Martian day, or sol, by measuring one of the biggest, longest-lasting marsquakes the mission has ever detected. Read more about the temblor and two other major quakes detected by InSight in the past month.


 

Hispanic Heritage Month: Marshall HR Business Partner Selina Salgado

Selina Salgado, a business partner in the Office of Human Resources at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, shares her journey to Marshall, and what this Hispanic Heritage Month means to her. Salgado joined the Marshall team in January 2021, after completing a Pathways Program internship in December 2020.
