First Piece of Artemis II Flight Hardware Arrives in Florida

The Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage for the second flight of NASA’s Space Launch System rocket arrived in Florida on July 28 for the final phase of production. The stage and its single RL10 engine provide the in-space propulsion needed to send NASA’s Orion spacecraft and its crew on a precise trajectory to the Moon for Artemis II. Boeing and United Launch Alliance shipped the stage from ULA’s facilities in Decatur, Alabama.

NASA Awards $500,000 in Break the Ice Lunar Challenge

As NASA prepares to go to the Moon with the Artemis program, in-situ resource utilization is paramount, and there is no hotter commodity than water. To that effect, 13 teams from across the United States have won a share of a $500,000 prize in a competition that asked for ideas for digging and hauling icy Moon “dirt” – or regolith.

SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket carrying the company’s Dragon spacecraft is scheduled to liftoff from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Learn about the variety of science investigations set to be delivered.

Digging the Dirt: NASA Benefits from Lunar Surface Simulant Testing

With abrasive surfaces and sharp edges, the Moon's dust and dirt particles are much rougher than what is usually found on Earth. To dig into this problem, NASA is preparing 16 tons of a regolith simulant. Explore more about the simulant, which is undergoing testing at NASA’s Marshall’s Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Spacewalk Preps Intensify During Muscle Studies

The Expedition 65 crew aboard the International Space Station spent Aug. 17 on a variety of biology experiments exploring how living in microgravity affects the human muscle system. The crew are also intensifying their preparations for three spacewalks over the coming weeks.
