Major Review Completed for NASA’s New SLS Exploration Upper StageNASA has successfully completed the exploration upper stage preliminary design review for the powerful Space Launch System rocket. The detailed assessment is a big step forward in being ready for more capable human and robotic missions to deep space, including the first crewed flight of SLS and NASA's Orion spacecraft in 2021.
First Look at Findings of NASA Twins StudyPreliminary research results for the NASA Twins Study debuted at NASA’s Human Research Program’s annual Investigators’ Workshop in Galveston, Texas, last week. NASA astronaut Scott Kelly returned home last March after nearly one year in space living on the International Space Station. His identical twin brother, Mark, remained on Earth.
New Horizons Refines Course for Next FlybyNASA’s New Horizons spacecraft completed a short propulsive maneuver this week to refine its track toward a New Year’s Day 2019 flyby past 2014 MU69, a Kuiper Belt object some 4 billion miles from Earth. Launched on Jan. 19, 2006, the spacecraft conducted a six-month-long reconnaissance flyby study of Pluto and its five moons in summer 2015.
