NASA Invites Media to Attend NASA Day in Baton Rouge May 5

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, and Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana, invites media to attend NASA Day in Baton Rouge activities May 5 at the Louisiana State Capitol.

Media are invited to interview NASA leaders at 11:15 a.m. CDT at the Capitol Rotunda. Spokespersons available for interviews include Seth Statler, associate administrator of NASA's Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs; Todd May, Marshall Center director; and Bobby Watkins, Michoud director.

Throughout the day, May, Watkins and other NASA team members will meet with state leaders, lawmakers and the public.

From 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. CDT NASA exhibits displayed in the Capitol Rotunda will give public audiences a look at work underway on the Space Launch System, Orion spacecraft and other NASA projects, including some of the NASA-related educational initiatives at Louisiana universities and schools. NASA Rover Challenge teams from Louisiana State University and Scotlandville Magnet High School will display rovers they designed and built, and Woodlawn High School will display NASA-sponsored robotics work.

NASA Day in Baton Rouge recognizes the space agency's partnerships with the State of Louisiana. NASA is tapping into the highly trained workforce at Michoud, the manufacturing center that built the external tank for the Space Shuttle Program, to build elements for SLS and Orion. Michoud provides vital support to NASA's exploration mission and will play a key role in sending humans to deep space destinations, including Mars.

Interested media should contact Molly Porter at molly.a.porter@xxxxxxxx or 256-424-5158.
