Expedition 42 Space Station Commander Butch Wilmore to Visit NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center on July 27; Media Invited

NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore, who lived and worked nearly six months on the International Station and served as the Expedition 42 commander, will visit NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, Monday, July 27. Wilmore will share highlights from his 167-day mission in space -- from Sept. 25, 2014, through March 12, 2015 -- as part of the Expedition 41 and 42 crews.

During his stay on the station, the Tennessee native performed three spacewalks to prepare for new international docking adapters and future U.S. commercial crew spacecraft. In addition, he completed a spacewalk with fellow astronaut Reid Wiseman to replace a failed voltage regulator. He also participated in numerous scientific investigations and technology demonstrations, including manufacturing the first parts ever made in space with a 3-D printer. Marshall managed the 3-D Printing in Zero-G Technology Demonstration, and the parts returned from the space station are now at Marshall for testing.

Wilmore will address the workforce in Morris Auditorium in Building 4200 at 10 a.m. He will present his mission highlights and take questions.

Media interested in covering Wilmore's mission highlights briefing should contact Tracy McMahan in the Marshall Public & Employee Communications Office at 256-544-0034 no later than 4 p.m., Friday, July 24. Media must report to the Redstone Arsenal Joint Visitor Control Center at Gate 9, Interstate 565 interchange at Research Park Boulevard by 8:45 a.m. on July 27. Vehicles are subject to a security search at the gate. News media will need photo identification and proof of car insurance.
