NASA to Participate in and Host Tweet Chat at Lehigh Valley Air Show Aug. 22-24

NASA will soar in to the fun at the Lehigh Valley Air Show Aug. 22-24 in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

At the event's Media Day on Friday, Aug. 22, two engineers from NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama -- Eric Gilligan and Michelle Tillotson -- will share their experiences working on projects for the agency's new rocket, the Space Launch System (SLS). SLS will be capable of deep space exploration missions, including to an asteroid and ultimately to Mars.

Gilligan is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University in State College. Tillotson graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She also worked in private industry in Allentown for a year before joining NASA. More information on Gilligan's work can be found here, and for Tillotson here.

Media interview opportunities with the two engineers are available from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT at the NASA booth at the airshow.

At 2 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. CDT Aug. 22, Gilligan and Tillotson also will answer questions about their work and SLS during a Tweet chat on the SLS Twitter account:

NASA will have SLS interactive exhibits and activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the airshow Saturday, Aug. 23, and Sunday, Aug. 24.

News media interested in attending should contact Shannon Ridinger in Marshall's Public & Employee Communications Office at 256-541-7698 no later than 4 p.m. EDT Thursday, Aug. 21. Other interview opportunities with the NASA representatives are available upon request throughout the airshow by contacting Ridinger.
