Marshall Center Team Members to Receive NASA Silver Snoopy Awards July 16; Members Of Huntsville-Area Media Invited

What: On July 16, 17 team members at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., will receive Silver Snoopy awards -- presented by the NASA Astronaut Corps to outstanding civil-service and contractor employees who have significantly contributed to America's human spaceflight program. Members of the local news media are invited to attend.

NASA's Space Flight Awareness Program has awarded the Silver Snoopy since 1968. The honor includes a silver pin flown on a shuttle mission, bearing the image of the famous "Peanuts" comic strip dog, Snoopy, clad in an astronaut suit. Honorees also receive a framed certificate and a congratulatory letter personally signed by astronauts.

Who: Marshall Center Director Patrick Scheuermann and NASA astronaut T.J. Creamer, a payload operations director in the Marshall Center's Space Station Payload Operations Integration Center, will present the awards.

When: 1 p.m. CDT, July 16

(To ensure adequate security processing and badging time, members of the media are encouraged to arrive at Gate 9 at least 45 minutes prior to event start.)

Where: Morris Auditorium, Building 4200, Marshall Space Flight Center, Rideout Road

To attend: News media interested in attending the event should contact Angela Storey in the Marshall Center's Public & Employee Communications Office at 256-544-0034 no later than 4 p.m. CDT on Monday, July 15. Media must report to the Redstone Arsenal Joint Visitor Control Center at Gate 9, Interstate 565 interchange at Rideout Road/Research Park Boulevard. Vehicles are subject to a security search at the gate. News media will need two photo identifications and proof of car insurance. Visitor parking is available in front of Building 4200 on the southwest side.
