Mplayer broken or bad DVD???

As was pointed out to me only the other week, try and build a later
version from source. When I had problems with Ubuntu 9.10 I ended up
building a source snap shot from the mplayer web site dated 16th May
2010 and this cured the problems I was having; it was not difficult to
build.
