Ok, sorry, I misunderstood. I agree that seeking should work, I could live
with some artifacts, though.

You're offering Video on demand services together with special playback
hard- and software? Why else would you think about the client software? If
you're offering video on the internet, why not let the user choose which
player to prefer?
