There is an useful option that you may want to add, or at least not make it too difficult for someone else to add: fullscreen margins. The problem is present, for example, with a 1920×1080 TV is in clone mode of a 1920×1200 screen. It is possible to tweak things with an expand filter, but that is not perfect (due to the 1088 limit of XVideo images with the unpatched intel driver, or the position of subtitles with vo=gl).
