This is the only explanation left imo (ffmpeg12vdpau should be much, much faster
than everything else and the high VO CPU usage is also hard to understand).
Could you look into your BIOS if there are any settings on how video memory is
used? I have a weak memory something was mentioned on nvnews.net.

(And to make sure: Could you upload a sample to 
ftp://ffmpeg.org/MPlayer/incoming (write only) and report the filename here -
please don't make it foo.mp2, but something with mpeg2, 720p, 60Hz and ts?)
