Yes, but note where you cut, and be careful not to delete anything
but the status-line output, and don't cut out ALL the A/V status
lines...

Also, it's y rare to see a problem any length into a video that
requires the Mplayer output. If mplayer doesn't recognize an audio
format, you only need to play the file a few seconds before you quit. 
That should shorten the mplayer output substantially, without any
cutting.
