I get this same problem. I'm using libiconv 1.11. This is the most recent "stable" version supplied in fink for Mac OS X. Yes I can upgrade, but mplayer should not fail to compile on all but the very latest iconv. (It did compile fine until recently.)

No problem for me.
I've installed libiconv 1.13.


That's it. I had to upgrade iconv awhile back.
