VOB aspect ratio mystery

Hi,
I'm wondering about how mplayer is performing some magic.I've a MPEG2 VOB with a 4:3 (aspect 2) encoded in the sequence header. This VOB is actually 16:9 and mplayer figures this out somehow, and prescales it correctly. Specifically the version that doesthis on my fedora 8 laptop is:MPlayer dev-SVN-r26936-4.1.2 (C) 2000-2008 MPlayer Teamwhich if packaged as: mplayer-1.0-0.91.20080531svn.lvn8
I had an older mplayer on ubuntu breezy that didn't noticeit was 16:9 and played it squashed:MPlayer 2:1.0~rc1-0ubuntu13 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team
So I assumed it was new code added, so I downloaded thelatest as shown below, but this doesn't notice it's 16:9 either?!MPlayer SVN-r28525-4.1.2 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team
So what's the first version above doing that the others aren't?
cheers,Pádraig.
p.s.I just downloaded and built this:http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/mplayer-export-snapshot.tar.bz2But that showed an old copyright year??MPlayer SVN-r28519 (C) 2000-2007 MPlayer Team
