> Thanks for your trouble, And yours! Sorry, I was under the impression that MEncoder would work audio-only files, but I've just learned it doesn't. MPlayer -dumpaudio does not honour the -ss switch. So of all the rubbish I've written it seems to remain only the one thing to try a named pipe instead of a temporary wav file, but that involves re-encoding as well. Sorry... Kiste
