The patch titled mm: filter based on a nodemask as well as a gfp_mask has been added to the -mm tree. Its filename is mm-filter-based-on-a-nodemask-as-well-as-a-gfp_mask.patch Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/SubmitChecklist when testing your code *** See http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/patches/stuff/added-to-mm.txt to find out what to do about this The current -mm tree may be found at http://userweb.kernel.org/~akpm/mmotm/ ------------------------------------------------------ Subject: mm: filter based on a nodemask as well as a gfp_mask From: Mel Gorman <mel@xxxxxxxxx> The MPOL_BIND policy creates a zonelist that is used for allocations controlled by that mempolicy. As the per-node zonelist is already being filtered based on a zone id, this patch adds a version of __alloc_pages() that takes a nodemask for further filtering. This eliminates the need for MPOL_BIND to create a custom zonelist. A positive benefit of this is that allocations using MPOL_BIND now use the local node's distance-ordered zonelist instead of a custom node-id-ordered zonelist. I.e., pages will be allocated from the closest allowed node with available memory.
