The patch titled Subject: kmsan: support SLAB_POISON has been added to the -mm mm-unstable branch. Its filename is kmsan-support-slab_poison.patch This patch will shortly appear at https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/25-new.git/tree/patches/kmsan-support-slab_poison.patch This patch will later appear in the mm-unstable branch at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/process/submit-checklist.rst when testing your code *** The -mm tree is included into linux-next via the mm-everything branch at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm and is updated there every 2-3 working days ------------------------------------------------------ From: Ilya Leoshkevich <iii@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: kmsan: support SLAB_POISON Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2023 00:24:32 +0100 Avoid false KMSAN negatives with SLUB_DEBUG by allowing kmsan_slab_free() to poison the freed memory, and by preventing init_object() from unpoisoning new allocations by using __memset(). There are two alternatives to this approach. First, init_object() can be marked with __no_sanitize_memory. This annotation should be used with great care, because it drops all instrumentation from the function, and any shadow writes will be lost. Even though this is not a concern with the current init_object() implementation, this may change in the future. Second, kmsan_poison_memory() calls may be added after memset() calls. The downside is that init_object() is called from free_debug_processing(), in which case poisoning will erase the distinction between simply uninitialized memory and UAF.
