The patch titled Subject: nilfs2: replace WARN_ONs by nilfs_error for checkpoint acquisition failure has been added to the -mm mm-nonmm-unstable branch. Its filename is nilfs2-replace-warn_ons-by-nilfs_error-for-checkpoint-acquisition-failure.patch This patch will shortly appear at https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/25-new.git/tree/patches/nilfs2-replace-warn_ons-by-nilfs_error-for-checkpoint-acquisition-failure.patch This patch will later appear in the mm-nonmm-unstable branch at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/process/submit-checklist.rst when testing your code *** The -mm tree is included into linux-next via the mm-everything branch at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm and is updated there every 2-3 working days ------------------------------------------------------ From: Ryusuke Konishi <konishi.ryusuke@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: nilfs2: replace WARN_ONs by nilfs_error for checkpoint acquisition failure Date: Thu, 29 Sep 2022 21:33:30 +0900 If creation or finalization of a checkpoint fails due to anomalies in the checkpoint metadata on disk, a kernel warning is generated. This patch replaces the WARN_ONs by nilfs_error, so that a kernel, booted with panic_on_warn, does not panic. A nilfs_error is appropriate here to handle the abnormal filesystem condition. This also replaces the detected error codes with an I/O error so that neither of the internal error codes is returned to callers.
