The patch titled Subject: memblock: make memblock_find_in_range method private has been added to the -mm tree. Its filename is memblock-make-memblock_find_in_range-method-private.patch This patch should soon appear at https://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmots/broken-out/memblock-make-memblock_find_in_range-method-private.patch and later at https://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/broken-out/memblock-make-memblock_find_in_range-method-private.patch Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/process/submit-checklist.rst when testing your code *** The -mm tree is included into linux-next and is updated there every 3-4 working days ------------------------------------------------------ From: Mike Rapoport <rppt@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: memblock: make memblock_find_in_range method private There are a lot of uses of memblock_find_in_range() along with memblock_reserve() from the times memblock allocation APIs did not exist. memblock_find_in_range() is the very core of memblock allocations, so any future changes to its internal behaviour would mandate updates of all the users outside memblock. Replace the calls to memblock_find_in_range() with an equivalent calls to memblock_phys_alloc() and memblock_phys_alloc_range() and make memblock_find_in_range() private method of memblock. This simplifies the callers, ensures that (unlikely) errors in memblock_reserve() are handled and improves maintainability of memblock_find_in_range().
