The patch titled Subject: mm: don't panic when links can't be created in sysfs has been added to the -mm tree. Its filename is mm-dont-panic-when-links-cant-be-created-in-sysfs.patch This patch should soon appear at https://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmots/broken-out/mm-dont-panic-when-links-cant-be-created-in-sysfs.patch and later at https://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/broken-out/mm-dont-panic-when-links-cant-be-created-in-sysfs.patch Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/process/submit-checklist.rst when testing your code *** The -mm tree is included into linux-next and is updated there every 3-4 working days ------------------------------------------------------ From: Laurent Dufour <ldufour@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: mm: don't panic when links can't be created in sysfs At boot time, or when doing memory hot-add operations, if the links in sysfs can't be created, the system is still able to run, so just report the error in the kernel log rather than BUG_ON and potentially make system unusable because the callpath can be called with locks held. Since the number of memory blocks managed could be high, the messages are rate limited. As a consequence, link_mem_sections() has no status to report anymore.
