The patch titled Subject: mm: swap: use smp_mb__after_atomic() to order LRU bit set has been added to the -mm tree. Its filename is mm-swap-use-smp_mb__after_atomic-to-order-lru-bit-set.patch This patch should soon appear at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmots/broken-out/mm-swap-use-smp_mb__after_atomic-to-order-lru-bit-set.patch and later at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/broken-out/mm-swap-use-smp_mb__after_atomic-to-order-lru-bit-set.patch Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/process/submit-checklist.rst when testing your code *** The -mm tree is included into linux-next and is updated there every 3-4 working days ------------------------------------------------------ From: Yang Shi <yang.shi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: mm: swap: use smp_mb__after_atomic() to order LRU bit set Memory barrier is needed after setting LRU bit, but smp_mb() is too strong. Some architectures, i.e. x86, imply memory barrier with atomic operations, so replacing it with smp_mb__after_atomic() sounds better, which is nop on strong ordered machines, and full memory barriers on others. With this change the vm-scalability cases would perform better on x86, I saw total 6% improvement with this patch and previous inline fix.
