The patch titled Subject: mm/memory_hotplug: make unregister_memory_block_under_nodes() never fail has been added to the -mm tree. Its filename is mm-memory_hotplug-make-unregister_memory_block_under_nodes-never-fail.patch This patch should soon appear at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmots/broken-out/mm-memory_hotplug-make-unregister_memory_block_under_nodes-never-fail.patch and later at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/broken-out/mm-memory_hotplug-make-unregister_memory_block_under_nodes-never-fail.patch Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/process/submit-checklist.rst when testing your code *** The -mm tree is included into linux-next and is updated there every 3-4 working days ------------------------------------------------------ From: David Hildenbrand <david@xxxxxxxxxx> Subject: mm/memory_hotplug: make unregister_memory_block_under_nodes() never fail We really don't want anything during memory hotunplug to fail. We always pass a valid memory block device, that check can go. Avoid allocating memory and eventually failing. As we are always called under lock, we can use a static piece of memory. This avoids having to put the structure onto the stack, having to guess about the stack size of callers. Patch inspired by a patch from Oscar Salvador. In the future, there might be no need to iterate over nodes at all. mem->nid should tell us exactly what to remove. Memory block devices with mixed nodes (added during boot) should properly fenced off and never removed.
