The patch titled Subject: mm: fix inactive list balancing between NUMA nodes and cgroups has been added to the -mm tree. Its filename is mm-fix-inactive-list-balancing-between-numa-nodes-and-cgroups.patch This patch should soon appear at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmots/broken-out/mm-fix-inactive-list-balancing-between-numa-nodes-and-cgroups.patch and later at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/broken-out/mm-fix-inactive-list-balancing-between-numa-nodes-and-cgroups.patch Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/process/submit-checklist.rst when testing your code *** The -mm tree is included into linux-next and is updated there every 3-4 working days ------------------------------------------------------ From: Johannes Weiner <hannes@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: mm: fix inactive list balancing between NUMA nodes and cgroups During !CONFIG_CGROUP reclaim, we expand the inactive list size if it's thrashing on the node that is about to be reclaimed. But when cgroups are enabled, we suddenly ignore the node scope and use the cgroup scope only. The result is that pressure bleeds between NUMA nodes depending on whether cgroups are merely compiled into Linux. This behavioral difference is unexpected and undesirable. When the refault adaptivity of the inactive list was first introduced, there were no statistics at the lruvec level - the intersection of node and memcg - so it was better than nothing. But now that we have that infrastructure, use lruvec_page_state() to make the list balancing decision always NUMA aware.
