The patch titled Subject: nmi_backtrace: generate one-line reports for idle cpus has been added to the -mm tree. Its filename is nmi_backtrace-generate-one-line-reports-for-idle-cpus.patch This patch should soon appear at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmots/broken-out/nmi_backtrace-generate-one-line-reports-for-idle-cpus.patch and later at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/broken-out/nmi_backtrace-generate-one-line-reports-for-idle-cpus.patch Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/SubmitChecklist when testing your code *** The -mm tree is included into linux-next and is updated there every 3-4 working days ------------------------------------------------------ From: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: nmi_backtrace: generate one-line reports for idle cpus When doing an nmi backtrace of many cores, most of which are idle, the output is a little overwhelming and very uninformative. Suppress messages for cpus that are idling when they are interrupted and just emit one line, "NMI backtrace for N skipped: idling at pc 0xNNN". We do this by grouping all the cpuidle code together into a new .cpuidle.text section, and then checking the address of the interrupted PC to see if it lies within that section. This commit suitably tags x86 and tile idle routines, and only adds in the minimal framework for other architectures.
