Subject: + mm-dump-page-when-hitting-a-vm_bug_on-using-vm_bug_on_page.patch added to -mm tree To: sasha.levin@xxxxxxxxxx,kirill@xxxxxxxxxxxxx From: akpm@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Fri, 27 Dec 2013 14:14:57 -0800 The patch titled Subject: mm: dump page when hitting a VM_BUG_ON using VM_BUG_ON_PAGE has been added to the -mm tree. Its filename is mm-dump-page-when-hitting-a-vm_bug_on-using-vm_bug_on_page.patch This patch should soon appear at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmots/broken-out/mm-dump-page-when-hitting-a-vm_bug_on-using-vm_bug_on_page.patch and later at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/broken-out/mm-dump-page-when-hitting-a-vm_bug_on-using-vm_bug_on_page.patch Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/SubmitChecklist when testing your code *** The -mm tree is included into linux-next and is updated there every 3-4 working days ------------------------------------------------------ From: Sasha Levin <sasha.levin@xxxxxxxxxx> Subject: mm: dump page when hitting a VM_BUG_ON using VM_BUG_ON_PAGE Most of the VM_BUG_ON assertions are performed on a page. Usually, when one of these assertions fails we'll get a BUG_ON with a call stack and the registers. I've recently noticed based on the requests to add a small piece of code that dumps the page to various VM_BUG_ON sites that the page dump is quite useful to people debugging issues in mm. This patch adds a VM_BUG_ON_PAGE(cond, page) which beyond doing what VM_BUG_ON() does, also dumps the page before executing the actual BUG_ON.
