Maybe you should do that substraction with the assignment the only
drawback is that it changes the debug output.

This is a bad idea. If you do that, userspace has no way of knowing
whether the date is valid or not.

I think this driver is DT only, you can get rid of MODULE_ALIAS and
DRIVER_NAME
