Hi strk,
Let me give you an overview of whats going on. I'm getting this error
when I try to use gifs

Catchable fatal error: SWFBitmap::__construct() [swfbitmap.--construct]:
GIF images must be translated into DBL files for now 

I'm using a free host who allows Ming and the Aministrator isn't
familiar with Ming.

Here are a few replies I have gotten so far:

You can't use PNG and GIF files directly in Ming - you need to convert
them to DBLs which are understood natively by Flash. Not sure about
Windows, but in Linux you need the libming-util package (sudo apt-get
install libming-util in Ubuntu) and then convert your gif with the

This is not entirely true. Ming can be compiled with GIF and PNG
support. At compile time the presence of libungif and libpng is checked.
If GIF and PNG support is enabled you don't have to convert images to
DBL first.

So I guess he doesn't have ligungif or wasn't able to find it and wants
to know if he can use giflib instad?
