Roll your own link.  All the following are equivalent to $SUBJECT$:

  <a $A_ATTR$>$SUBJECTNA$</a>
  <a $A_NAME$ $A_HREF>$SUBJECTNA$</a>
  <a name="$MSGNUM" href="$MSGNUM$>$SUBJECTNA$</a>
