If you want to see some more example resource files,
you can look at Simeon Nevel's, which can be reached
from

http://www.sonic.net/~snevel/mhonarc.html

His author index has the dates listed next to the
message title. His date index uses the date as a header
to each group of messages for a given date.

I found these very helpful when I was starting out.
