This is also a problem on the desktop for VoIP applications - ideally you would like to have sound profiles - "alarm" sounds go both to speakers and headsets, and "application" sounds only go to the headphones (if they're plugged in). In a typical home office, I listen to music, but if I have to plug in my headphones before answering a VoIP call, it's a pain in the rear.
