Although I thought they had made this dependency seamless on the 770, Canola requires Python to be installed.  It ma be a simple thing of adding the necessary repositories, Maemo Extras perhaps.  

Or, just go and install python for maemo.  Having that installed tends to fix a number of installation issues on the 770.
