The better question is, is there a mediawiki plugin to do it? What's
wrong with having a sky made of diamonds?

If there is, it solves all the problems very well: users with accounts
should see the captcha and go "oh, I'm not logged in" (if they want to
be logged in); spam should be stopped etc.
