I think it is possible. I have used a swap partition with the 770. Try to create a partition and run mkswap on it. Add the partition in the fstab (similar to your desktop fstab). However, during startup the swap partition will not get initialized (don't know why). If I remember correctly I had to activate the swap partition by adding "swapon ..." in /etc/init.d/rcS.
