Going to try an upgrade and check back in. Yup, that did it. Seems the software from the OS2008-beta is a little outdated compared to the official release. Skype, running. Oddly enough, it didn't install from the repo though (claimed it was corrupted), I had to download it from Skype's page. In any event, hope my oversights help others!
